As the owner and operator of Bean Bakery, LLC, Jacqueline K Pohlman (Stroede), I have spent what feels like a lifetime suffering from thyroid, digestion, adrenal issues and then developed iron deficiency anemia too. With multiple treatments I overcame the anemia, but chronic iron deficiency still remains a difficult problem to overcome. Making positive nutritional choices has been key to improving my health over time, a daily battle and something many of you are all too familiar with. Living in a world full of GMO’s, fake foods and with allergens on the rise, takes a toll on the body and mind. I LOVE cake and baked goods! Yet they are usually full of gluten and the gluten free options included many other ingredients still harmful to me.
The problem? Competitor products offered very little (or no) option for variations as my nutritional needs continued to change and I needed to find a solution. I was overwhelmed, tired of having to accept one ingredient over another in standard products that may cause me harm because I could not find a “one fits all” solution. I was tired of spending my time and money on products that were not what I needed, often not tasting good either. I began research into my own diagnosis which revealed that absorption issues in the digestive tract may alter the way iron is absorbed due to food allergies or sensitivities. Gluten allergies or sensitivities, soy, even rice, can all cause problems and I found I was not alone. Millions upon millions suffer from the same issues with food allergies and sensitivities creating a cascade of health issues and that number is rising every year. This is a global issue. In addition, aging, chemotherapy treatments, genetics, or just wanting to eat real food again, has created a need for a new product on the market, made from whole foods and allowing for customization by a worldwide population of people suffering every day.
The solution? Knowing that many others living with these complications the same as myself, and my passion to create a new product brand line to solve this problem for us all, was the driving force for me to bring Bean Bakery, LLC products from concept to reality. With a long family history of bakers and wonderful memories baking with my grandparents, I worked hard and spent my time on founding a manufacturing business developing and producing products that may work for just about anyone. I created and developed the right formula of ingredients using what I knew of food science, obtaining my commercial baking certification, ServSafe Santation Managerial licensing, DATCP Manufacture and Production licensing, and researching the knowledge and expertise for what I didn’t know but needed to. Making a career change to complete Small Business Entrepreneurship coursework at the local college, while simultaneously seeking out business coaching from a diverse selection of Small Business Entrepreneur colleagues, has allowed Bean Bakery products to become available to the local Madison, WI community and soon, to the world. After testing my formula with three local test groups, Bean Bakery began manufacturing to produce gourmet professional level blender base mixes.
